Microfinishing film is an alternative to sandpaper. Microfinishing film is a more precisely engineered product with extremely consistent abrasive grains. Sandpaper has varying sizes of abrasive grains that tear or scratch material during the removal process. Finer grits smooth over the torn fibers and provide consistency, but microfinishing film’s exact grit structure removes fibers without uneven tearing. The result is a more consistent finish with less material loss. For students, this is particularly appealing as it provides a bit of insurance against over-filing.
These microfinishing strips come in a set of six sizes:
- 100µ (~100 grit)
- 80µ (~200 grit)
- 60µ (~300 grit)
- 40µ (~400 grit)
- 30µ (~600 grit)
- 15µ (~1,200 grit)
